The Treasury Department is defending a preliminary design for a commemorative $1 coin featuring President Donald Trump’s face.

The Treasury released the design last week, according to CBS News . On the heads side, it features Trump’s profile. On the tails side, there is an image of Trump raising his fist in front of an American flag and the words “FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT.”

The design sparked controversy. Some said the coin would violate a law passed in 1866 that enshrined a tradition of individuals appearing on U.S. currency only after death, according to The New York Times .

The move was meant to avoid the appearance that the U.S. was a monarchy.
