A Tannochside dad has narrowly avoided jail after he was caught with cannabis worth nearly £200,000. ‌

Police found 26kg of the Class B drug and also seized thousands of pounds in cash when they raided John Mullen’s home in Russell Gardens. ‌

His lawyer told Hamilton Sheriff Court he’d been “taken advantage of” by criminals who’d asked him to look after it. ‌

Mullen, 54, admitted being concerned in the supply of cannabis on March 22 last year.

Derek McSherry, 36, of Caledonian Road, Wishaw, had his not guilty plea to the charge accepted.

The court heard that when police arrived with a search warrant Mullen told them: “It’s all mine. It’s nothing to do with my son.” ‌
