Two Indian Army personnel went missing during an operation in the mountainous Kishtwar range of South Kashmir after their team was caught in a severe snowstorm on the intervening night of October 6 and 7, the Army said on Wednesday.

The soldiers, who are part of an elite para unit, lost contact with their team during a combing exercise in the Ahlan Gadole area of Kokernag, which began two days ago to track down suspected terrorists hiding in the region, according to news agency PTI.

“On the intervening night of 6/7 October, an operational team on the Kishtwar range confronted a severe snowstorm and whiteout conditions in the mountains of South Kashmir. Since then, two soldiers have gone out of communication,” the Srinagar-based Chinar Corps of the Indian Army said in a post on X.
