NEW YORK (PIX11) – A powerful autumn cold front swept through the tri-state area Wednesday morning and will play a key role in fueling a developing coastal storm off the North Carolina coastline by Friday night.

That storm will linger into Monday night of next week.

Saturday will mark a pivotal turning point in the forecast as a strong pocket of upper-level energy dives out of southern Canada and merges with the developing system near the Carolinas.

The main drivers behind this high-impact storm will be a strong Canadian high-pressure system positioned north of the New York City area and a deepening coastal low off the mid-Atlantic.
