A pair of Michigan lawmakers have introduced a new piece of legislation to improve security for houses of worship.

The Pray Safe Act by U.S. Senators Gary Peters and Elissa Slotkin comes in the days following the Sept. 28 shooting and fire at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc Township.

The act requires the Department of Homeland Security to establish a federal clearinghouse for nonprofit organizations, including faith-based organizations and houses of worship, according to a Wednesday, Oct. 8, news release.

Four victims died and eight others suffered injuries during the incident at the church off McCandlish Road. Victims’ ages ranged from six to 78 years old .
