MUSKEGON HEIGHTS, Mich. — A woman was killed Monday while attempting to cross the street in Muskegon Heights, according to the Muskegon Heights Police Department.

The crash happened around 7:40 p.m. on E Hackley Avenue near Reynolds Street. A 48-year-old woman attempting to cross Hackley Avenue in her motorized wheelchair was hit by a vehicle, police say.

She was taken to a hospital and was pronounced dead.

The driver fled the scene after hitting the woman, according to police. Detectives identified the suspect through surveillance camera footage.

The suspect was interviewed and lodged at the Muskegon County Jail.

The Muskegon County Prosecutor's Office confirmed 23-year-old Shuntelle Blackmon is facing failure to stop at the scene of a serious accident.
