DEKALB, Ill. (WREX) — Some residents of DeKalb are responding to an ICE operation that took place on October 8, 2025, impacting the community.

Laura Anderson, a lifelong resident of DeKalb, shared her perspective on the situation. "With this being in our backyard it hits differently," Anderson said. "It's sad that our residents and our community are being impacted by something that in my eyes and a lot of people's eyes just doesn't make sense because these people have been a part of our community."

The ICE operation, confirmed by the DeKalb police chief, resulted in at least one person being detained near the city's Walmart. The operation's full scope remains unclear, and we are awaiting confirmation from the Department of Homeland Security for more details.
