A man and woman convicted in connection with a 2021 killing in Tama County have been sentenced to life in prison, according to court documents.

Huston William Danker, 26, was sentenced Oct. 3 to life without the possibility of parole after pleading guilty to first-degree murder in the 2021 shooting death of Ryan Cooper in Traer, court records show. His co-defendant, Karina Sue Cooper, 46, received the same mandatory sentence Sept. 19 following her July conviction in her husband’s death, according to court documents.

The pair’s sentences close a four-year case that began with what investigators described as a “violent death.” No arrests were made until 2024, when Cooper was taken into custody in February and Danker in April, nearly three years after the shooting.
