TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) - The University of Arizona Faculty Senate has come to a resolution regarding the "Compact for Academic Excellence in Higher Education" proposal sent by the White House.

The Faculty Senate of the university has opposed the Compact and is calling on President Suresh Garimella and the Arizona Board of Regents to do the same, according to university officials.

They said this proposal, and any similar one, should be rejected if it compromises the values, mission and independence of the university.

"This Compact contains provisions which endanger the independence, excellence, and integrity of the University of Arizona and infringe on the constitutional rights of members of the University of Arizona community," officials said.
