Vashon artist Michelle Lassaline, whose artwork began appearing in The Beachcomber in February of 2025, creates illustrations, fine art, and multimedia performances. Now, she can claim “prize-winning editorial cartoonist” to her list of accomplishments, having won two awards, including a first-place prize for in the all-circulation group category of Editorial Cartoon in the 2025 Better Newspaper Contest. Her prizewinning cartoons for The Beachcomber carry the spirit of Vashon, depicting ferry boat rides, island forest critters, Strawberry Festival joy and local heroes.
