QUINCY (WGEM) -The National Fire Prevention Association reports over 300 thousand house fires happen every year. This week is fire prevention week and firefighters are sharing how to stay safe if a fire does occur.
Aaron Whittler, Tri-Township Fire District Lieutenant, said people can help slow or even stop the spread of a fire by knowing how to properly use a fire extinguisher. He said there is even an acronym designed to help people remember how to correctly use the fire extinguisher.
“They should know the pass acronym which is pull, aim, squeeze and sweep,” Whittler said. “That way they properly cover the area of the fire. Still call 911, that way we can make sure the fire is adequately extinguished. But that acronym right there will help you in a lot of situations with the fire extin
