After nearly five months on the run, Derrick Groves — the last of 10 inmates who escaped from the Orleans Justice Center in May — was captured Wednesday in Atlanta after a standoff with law enforcement.
Groves, 28, was taken into custody at a residence on Honeysuckle Lane SW by the U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force, with help from Atlanta Police and Clayton County officers.
Groves blew kisses to the camera as he was placed into a patrol car.
Authorities say it took hours to find Groves inside the home. SWAT teams deployed gas multiple times before locating him hiding in a crawl space.
Groves had been on the run since May 16, when he and nine others broke out of the New Orleans jail. He was the last in the group to be captured.
