VALLEY, Ala. (WTVM) - A woman is facing charges after police say she tried to set a church’s cross on fire earlier this week.
According to the Valley Police Department, officers responded to Rehobeth Baptist Church on Hughley Road on October 6 in reference to a woman attempting to light the wooden cross in the church’s yard on fire.
Police say the suspect fled before the fire caused major damage. After an investigation, officers identified and arrested Christy Lynn Wesson, also known as Christy Lynn Jones, on October 8.
She is charged with cross or American flag burning and desecration of a venerated object.
Wesson was processed at the Valley Police Department and later taken to the Chambers County Jail without incident.
