Vermont’s three-member congressional delegation took to Facebook Wednesday to have a live discussion about the status of the government shutdown, now in its second week.
At issue are tax credits that have made health insurance through the Affordable Care Act (ACA) more affordable for millions of people since the COVID-19 pandemic. The credits are set to expire at the end of the year if Congress doesn’t extend them — which would more than double what subsidized enrollees currently pay for health insurance premiums, according to an analysis by KFF, an independent policy research group.
Though a funding bill has passed the Republican-controlled House, the Senate needs 60 votes of its 100 members. There are 53 people in the Republican caucus, 47 in the Democratic caucus.
“So to get 60 vo
