MADISON, Ala. (WHNT) – Main Street Madison called on the residents to help shape the future of the city’s downtown district.

The volunteer-based organization hosted a public planning session on Tuesday, inviting community members to share their ideas for revitalizing downtown Madison. Organizers say they want the people who live, work and spend time in the area to have a voice in its transformation.

“Because they are the ones that are going to reap the benefit of a growing district and want them to be involved. It's their quality of life, it's their district, their downtown," Mary Wirth, Main Street Alabama State Coordinator, said.

Main Street Alabama, the state organization supporting the local effort, will present its initial recommendations this Thursday, Oct. 9, at Madison City Hall
