LIVE OAK, Fla. (WCJB) - Suwannee County commissioners are now joining an effort to protect one of North Central Florida’s most popular springs.
County leaders approved a “no-wake zone” along much of the Ichetucknee River that would make a three-mile stretch of the river a slow-speed zone for jet skis and boats.
Last week, Columbia County commissioners made a similar move, backing a petition calling for the no-wake zone.

The plan now has to be approved by state and federal agencies, due Oct. 24, before going to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
If the petition clears that stage, it will move to an FWC public workshop and then a final vote by the commission.
