COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — A South Columbus elementary school is taking a new approach to motivate students to show up for class.
Dorothy Height Elementary School on Benning Drive has opened the PAW — Perfect Attendance Award — store, where students with perfect attendance can shop for items ranging from cleaning supplies to diapers.
Dr. Asante’ Hiltz, president and CEO of Valley Healthcare System, said the goal is to support families beyond the classroom.
“When you see somebody come in and shop for a vacuum cleaner or diapers or wipes or cleaning supplies, laundry detergent — it tells you that we care not just about their education, but their whole life,” Hiltz said. “Everything that influences them, everything that they need to be sustainable.”
