LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - Some JCPS Students helped break ground on a new Okolona Elementary School on Wednesday.

JCPS Superintendent Dr. Yearwood says this new facility is designed to reflect the way students learn today and will also save JCPS some money at a time when the district is trying to shrink its budget deficit.
“We’ve ensured that the new Okolona Elementary is built to last and represents a smart use of our taxpayers’ dollars,” the superintendent said. “We’re keeping things efficient by utilizing geothermal cooling, and it’s a highly energy-efficient approach.”
Other cost-effective strategies Dr. Yearwood mentioned include LED lights that turn off
