MINDEN, La. -- No more pop-up parking lot get-togethers. Minden’s next ordinance aims to shut down loud parties, rowdy music and burnout marks.
Residents say it’s gotten out of hand and now city leaders want to make vacant-lot hangouts a ticketable offense -- unless the owner gets a permit.
MLK Drive has long been the source of noise and litter complaints. Monday, Minden city leaders drafted a rule requiring permits for gatherings on vacant lots within 300 feet of any business that sells alcohol.
“People are hanging out on vacant lots causing congestion, loud music and littering,” Mayor Nick Cox said. “It’s gotten really bad.”
Under the proposal, property owners must provide lighting and trash bins and can apply for a one-time permit.
