ALABASTER, Ala. ( WBRC ) - Alabaster Police are getting new wheels with new tools to keep the community safe on the roads.
Officers tell WBRC that theft and police chases are among the most common crimes they see in Shelby County, and now every single Alabaster Police car will have spike strips.
“He’s going to do the throwing mechanism,” said Detective Andrew Rowan while on officer demonstrated the spike strip device to WBRC.
It could be thrown across the road in seconds, with sharp metal pieces to stop reckless drivers.
“And help stop either a chase, a fleeing vehicle, or vehicle that’s having an emergency, anything like that,” said Rowan. “This helps deflate the tires in a safe manner.”
