DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) -- A farmers market in Piqua is giving kids the chance to not only choose their own food but also manage their own money. Kids love it, and teachers love the way it brings those topics right back to the classroom.
The Miami County Junior Farmers Market is an annual event organized by the Ohio State University Extension in Miami County.
It is funded partially by the Miami County Foundation and supported by the Miami County commissioners.
Megan Askins is the assistant principal at Piqua Central. She says the farmers market takes what these kids learn in the classroom and brings it right into the real world.
“One of the big things that they connect with is water and soil,” said Askins. “Relate it back to how the vegetables are grown.”
Those lessons bridge multiple sub
