TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - For the first time in his life, four-year-old Landry Lassetter took a full breath of air on his own. Nobody saw it coming.

WCTV first caught up with Landry and his mother, Kami, in 2022 , as she spent Thanksgiving away from family in an Ohio hospital. Later, WCTV captured the moment he finally returned home to Tallahassee in 2023.

Landry lives with BPD, or Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia. Kami said doctors gave him a 1% chance to live.

He’s continued to defy the odds since he was born.

“It wasn’t something that was supposed to happen,” Kami said, recalling the moment her son ditched the ventilator. “He decided, ‘I don’t want this ventilator anymore.’”
