CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — The City of Cedar Rapids announced an update concerning the public right-of-way near the Department of Homeland Security and Immigration and Customs Enforcement office at 3351 Square D Drive SW.

City staff say there was a discrepancy in the property boundaries. Officials say the public right-of-way was found to be unusually wide compared to neighboring properties.

This comes as the Department of Homeland Security is reportedly looking to build a fence around the property. The immigrant rights group Escucha Mi Voz calls the fence "unnecessary and intimidating". Members voiced their concerns to the city council this week, saying that the wall would violate due process for immigrants and freedom of assembly.
