DETROIT, MI – A mother and child were arrested after a student was stabbed at a Detroit school on Wednesday, Oct. 8.

Detroit Public Schools Community District said a student at Gompers Elementary-Middle School was stabbed by a fellow student after their mother gave them a small knife at school, according to a statement released by the district.

The school had a metal detector in the entrance that sounded off when the mother walked inside, but a school security guard failed to search the mother, the district said. The district has removed the security guard from the school, pending an investigation.

The victim is in stable condition, the district said.

The student and the student’s mother behind the attack have been arrested.
