EUGENE, Ore. - The University of Oregon is actively participating in the "Big Ten Blood Drive," a competition to gather the most blood donations among schools.

According to Bloodworks Northwest, the drive runs until Dec. 3, offering Ducks fans a chance to contribute to a potential $1 million prize and bragging rights. Participants in the "Big Ten Blood Drive" will receive a limited edition T-shirt. Currently, Oregon is in 13th place with 838 donations, trailing behind the University of Wisconsin's 5,800.

Bill Cresko, a bioengineering professor, shared his personal motivation for donating.

"I have firsthand experience with my mother undergoing cancer treatment and seeing how many transfusions she needed. So, giving blood is extremely important," Cresko said.
