MISSOURI — A study by WalletHub finds Missouri falls in the middle of the pack when it comes to student loan debt.
According to WalletHub, Missouri ranks 24th among all 50 states and Washington D.C. in overall student debt burden.
The state’s ranking for grant and student work opportunities is lower, coming in at 43rd nationwide.
The study highlights the growing issue of student debt in the country. Except for mortgages, student loans make up the largest share of household debt for Americans.
At the end of the first quarter of 2025, total outstanding college-loan balances exceeded $1.66 trillion, per U.S. Department of Education.
