BRIDGEWATER, Mass. —
A Bridgewater mother and daughter were arraigned Wednesday after allegedly leaving their two dogs to die in a 130-degree car over the summer.
Lisa Smith, 59, and Rachel Smith, 33, were each charged with one count of animal cruelty and one count of confinement of an animal in a motor vehicle causing exposure to extreme heat or cold.
Both women appeared in Brockton District Court, looking tearful, pleading not guilty to the charges.
They were released on personal recognizance and ordered to undergo mental health evaluations, as well as not to own any animals or have unsupervised contact with any animals.
The Smiths were also ordered to turn their cat over to animal control.
