BENNINGTON, Vt. (ABC22/FOX44) - Bennington authorities said Wednesday evening that they were still on the scene fighting a fire on Main Street after 9:30 p.m.
The fire began earlier in the evening near the intersection with Safford Street. Police say that a 65-year-old woman who was a resident of the building was injured while fleeing the building. She was taken to Southwestern Vermont Medical Center and her life is not believed to be in danger.
According to authorities, the fire was under control after about two hours, but Vermont Route 9 continues to be closed Wednesday night for the time being.
