Trent Reznor's industrial-electronic outfit has been making music for more than 35 years and there has never been a time on that trajectory when the group hasn't been vital or unstoppable, or when that block letter NIN patch on your jean jacket suddenly turned embarrassing.

Reznor is always growing and expanding his palate, finding new ways to sound dejected or to blast authority, and even as he's turned toward composing film scores — picking up two Oscars with his musical partner Atticus Ross along the way — he's always stayed true to his artistic vision.
