HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) - The Holyoke City Council voted 7 to 6 on Tuesday night to 'leave to withdraw' a resolution that would have reaffirmed the city's non-sanctuary status.
The resolution, introduced by Councilors Kevin Jourdain and Linda Vacon, aimed to counter a federal classification of Holyoke as a sanctuary city, which could jeopardize millions in federal funding.
"With this administration, nothing is guaranteed, and so for us to invite a federal agency into our community to tell us how to do things, that is not a great use of our time," said Holyoke City Council President Tessa R. Murphy-Romboletti.
