A cold front that moved through Michigan this week prompted freeze warnings in northern Michigan, a chilly reminder that winter is not far away.

While fall only began in September, Michigan residents are already looking ahead to what winter may bring, but the National Weather Service and competing almanacs — Farmers' Almanac and the Old Farmer's Almanac — don't necessarily agree on what we should expect.

The Lower Peninsula is expected to see above-average snowfall,and normal winter temperatures, according to seasonal outlooks by the National Weather Service issued in mid-September.

However, the Old Farmer's Almanac issued a differing prediction , saying Michigan will experience a warmer winter — and some cold bursts expected in the UP.
