LINDENHURST, N.Y. (PIX11) – A man is accused of stabbing an off-duty NYPD officer in Lindenhurst early Thursday morning, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.

Police said it happened on 40th Street off Buffalo Avenue around 1:05 a.m. Royal Hooks, 27, was allegedly trying to steal from a parked car in a driveway, according to authorities.

Police said two off-duty NYPD officers had seen Hooks get into the car. When the officers approached Hooks, he was accused of trying to flee, according to authorities.

Police said the officers caught up to Hooks down the block. That’s when Hooks allegedly stabbed one of them in the left leg, according to authorities.
