With October in full swing, many San Francisco bars are fully embracing the spooky season with decorations and themed cocktails.
While some establishments might put out pumpkins or a skeleton or two, others have gone all out opening Halloween pop-ups. Rye Bar is among them, having recently unveiled its annual seasonal theme — another homage to Stephen King’s 1977 horror novel, “The Shining,” that director Stanley Kubrick adapted into a film three years later.
“Obviously, there's a plug-in drink — the ’red rum,’” bar manager Phil Mauro said of the watering hole’s references to the book and movie. “It's easy to lean into the names and the aesthetic and classic horrorness of it. And there's a bartender named Lloyd in it.”
Mauro said he counts “The Shining” as among his 10 favorite films.
