BUFFALO, N.Y. — Assemblyman Jon Rivera says he's running for the New York State Senate seat that would be vacated if Sean Ryan wins the race for Buffalo Mayor.

While the Buffalo Mayoral race is still four weeks away, Rivera says he feels confident that voters will elect Ryan as Mayor.

"The men and women who build this region, care for our kids and elders, and keep our communities moving deserve leadership that has their back,” said Rivera. “This campaign is about them, and about making sure government works for those who work hard every day to build a better life."

Rivera cited recent changes in the political landscape in WNY as a reason why he wants to run for the 61st District seat.

"Looking at the region, making sure we have people who know Albany is important," Rivera told 2 On You
