For a long time, people have complained about back-in parking on Washington Ave. in downtown Royal Oak.
Finally, the city has listened and has decided to convert those spots on Washington Ave. between 4th Street and Lincoln Ave to traditional pull-in spaces.
The work of repainting the parking lines began Monday and is expected to be completed by Friday.
“Washington parking will now have the same design and process as our other downtown streets, offering a more straightforward user experience,” said Royal Oak City Manager Joseph Gacioch said in a statement. “Parking will be fast and easy, which is exactly as it should be.”
As a bonus, the city said the newly restored pull-in parking spaces will be free through Jan 2, 2026. Other spaces downtown will remain metered and paid.
