Edmonton homicide detectives are leading a search in the Carrot Creek area west of the city for the missing and presumed dead 14-year-old Samuel Bird.

Edmonton homicide detectives are providing an update from the Yellowhead County scene, about 160 km west of Edmonton, Thursday afternoon.

The 14-year-old boy from west Edmonton was last seen the evening of June 1, walking through the grounds of Holy Cross School. Before that, he had been at a friend’s house near 150 Street and 106 Avenue. That home was later part of an investigation into a suspicious fire on the premises.

In July, his parents rallied community members to join them on a series of public searches for their son. They were aided by a number of Indigenous groups, including the Confederacy of Treaty Six First Nations.
