MOUNT HOOD, Ore. (KPTV) - Prices at Timberline Lodge are increasing this year due to rising insurance costs, according to the officials.
In 2014, an Oregon Supreme Court ruling found recreational waivers are virtually unenforceable, putting liability for outdoor recreation heavily on businesses, not customers.
There have been pushes several times over the years for liability reform, including this past spring, but none have been successful.
Due to that, this summer, one of the last two insurance providers pulled out of the State of Oregon, leaving just one insurer for ski areas, including Timberline Lodge.
