WILMINGTON, Ohio (WXIX) - Officers in Wilmington were forced to kill a dog after it attacked the owner, according to the Wilmington Police Department.

Police explained in a Facebook post that officers were called to West Locust Street on Wednesday for a report of dogs possibly fighting.

As officers were heading to the scene, a 911 call was made.

In the call, according to Wilmington police, the caller was heard screaming.

Police said it was believed the owner was being attacked by the dog.

Officers got to the scene on Locust Street as the dog attack was ongoing, according to the department.

“To protect the victim, the dog was put down on scene,” Wilmington police explained.

The victim was taken to Clinton Regional Hospital, then was flown to Miami Valley, police said.
