CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, Ohio (WOIO) - The $60 million mixed-use development project at Park Synagogue got a $1.75 million boost from the City of Cleveland Heights.

The 27-acre property has at its center the Mendelsohn Dome, designed by Jewish architect Eric Mendelsohn, who escaped Germany and Nazism for the United States in 1933.

The 75-year-old dome, built in 1950 and now a National Landmark, will get a $750,000 loan for renovations and will become a center for visual and performing arts, community events, and education.

“It’s going to bring more arts to our community with the post-grad students from Oberlin,” explained interim Cleveland Heights Mayor Tony Cuda. “We’re going to have more arts with non-profits that will be inside the dome.”
