DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – A dog was killed as it was attacking its owner on Wednesday night. The owner was hospitalized.

According to the Wilmington Police Department, officers responded to a call in the 700 block of W. Locust Street for dogs possibly fighting and an owner yelling at them.

When heading to the scene, officials said the situation escalated to a 911 emergency call. The caller was screaming, and a dog attacking the owner could be heard.

Once on the scene, officers saw the attack was still in progress. Officials said to protect the victim, the dog was put down.

The owner was taken by medics to Clinton Regional Hospital, then air-lifted out to Miami Valley.
