The City of Kitchener is cautioning people to be wary of phoney building inspectors.

The city said it has recently received two reports of people falsely claiming to be city building inspectors.

In a release, the city said its inspectors usually visit a location after a customer has called to request an inspection related to an active building permit.

However, there are instances when staff may come to a site unannounced to investigate a complaint, the city said.

To ensure you’re speaking to a legitimate City of Kitchener building inspector, look for the city’s logo and brand colours (green and gold) on the sides and back of the city vehicle, city logos on clothing and appropriate safety gear like hard hats and safety boots, and a City of Kitchener ID badge and/or business cards, which
