KINGSTON, N.Y. — The city will undertake its first charter review in decades after the Common Council unanimously approved creating a charter review commission at its meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 7.
Majority Leader Reynolds Scott-Childress pledged that the entire process will be done before the 2027 Common Council election. Scott-Childress will not be there for the process as he is not running for Common Council this year.
Scott-Childress said lawmakers are excited to get the ball rolling on a review of the city’s charter, which serves as the foundation of how the city government is organized and functions and sets checks and balances for lawmakers and the mayor’s office.
Scott-Childress said the city will put out a request for proposals for a consultant to assist in the process in November
