WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) - A portion of the North Country is now in a severe drought.

That’s according to the National Drought Mitigation Center’s latest map of New York state.

It says a wide swath of northern St. Lawrence County is now in severe drought. It’s shown in orange on the map.

Most other areas of St. Lawrence and Jefferson counties are in moderate drought, shown in tan.

And part of Lewis County, the yellow area on the map, is abnormally dry.

For perspective, just three months ago, there was no drought at all in the area.
