NILES, Mich. (WNDU) - A 63-year-old Niles man has been arrested and charged with a hate crime after a barbershop was tagged with “racially motivated graffiti.”
Timothy McDermott was arrested following an extensive investigation into vandalism that police say happened back on Aug. 14 at In the Cut Barbershop on Sycamore Street.
McDermott has been charged with felony hate crime and misdemeanor malicious destruction of property over $200 but less than $1,000. He was arraigned on Thursday.
Police did not release details about the specific nature of the graffiti or what led investigators to McDermott as a suspect.
