The Southern Boone School District is considering switching to a four-day school week for the 2026-27 school year, and the district will host a community meeting Thursday to discuss the topic.

A report by the Show-Me Institute in 2024 shows that 173 out of 518 school districts in Missouri have adopted a four-day school week.

Within rural districts, 47% are using the four-day school week.

Some schools in mid-Missouri that have started using the four-day school week are New Bloomfield R-3, Osage R-1 and R-2, North Callaway R-1, Hallsville R-4, Sturgeon R-5, Harrisburg R-7, Fayette R-3, Blackwater R-2, Moniteau R-5 and Morgan County R-2.
