YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WOIO) - A Youngstown police officer was shot Thursday afternoon, according to the city.

The shooting happened in an area near East Midlothian Boulevard between South Avenue and Southern Boulevard.

The officer has been taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The schools in the area implemented a controlled release, and residents in the vicinity. Residents were asked to remain in their homes to allow the police to conduct their operations.

There is no information available on the suspect.
