Conestoga College president John Tibbits said recruiting international students was not about the money during questioning Thursday at a standing committee on citizenship and immigration.
The committee is reviewing Canada’s immigration and citizenship laws, programs and policies, and has been tasked with examining the federal government’s interventions to limit international student permits.
Tibbits was one of a handful of witnesses to answer questions from the committee, and had some tense moments as he was grilled by members of Parliament.
“It was not the money,” he told the committee via video feed. “I know that one gentleman was talking about the funding, it’s not why we grew the international (cohort), we grew the international because we don’t have enough domestic students to fill
