DES MOINES, Iowa — The Des Moines School Board has approved a two-year contract for Matt Smith to serve as interim superintendent of Des Moines Public Schools through the 2026-27 school year. Smith has been with the district since 2010, most recently serving as associate superintendent since 2018.

School Board Chair Jackie Norris praised Smith's leadership, stating, "Matt Smith is an experienced leader who has demonstrated time and time again his commitment and dedication to our students and the entire Des Moines community." She highlighted his role in the district's Reimagining Education initiative.
