LEE'S SUMMIT, Mo. — Add this Jackson County venue to the list of metro cities planning for next summer's World Cup matches.

Thursday marks 245 days until the World Cup opens.

City councilmembers in Lee's Summit approved temporary changes to ordinances in hopes of attracting more business during the 2026 World Cup.

On Tuesday, the council unanimously approved tweaking ordinances for six weeks during World Cup play, allowing businesses to use more signage and food trucks to operate at all hours near the city's downtown.

The council also moved against permitting any fireworks shows, parades or large gatherings other than those traditionally celebrated in the community.

"We want to have as many people here as possible," said Lyndsey Fliehs, owner at Team Cocktail, a store on Third Street.
