BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Louisiana’s Board of Ethics has failed to collect more than $2.7 million owed to the state in late fees from public officials who have not properly submitted required financial disclosures, according to a new audit from the Legislative Auditor’s Office (LLA) that concluded May 27.

The audit found that for the past 10 years, the Board of Ethics has not sent delinquent debts to the Attorney General’s Office for collection on time, as required by state law. This audit is the 5th two-year engagement with the board on this issue. The missing or late submissions include campaign finance disclosures, personal financial statements, and lobbying reports. As of May 27 , there were 3,173 outstanding late fees.
